How to Solve Problems and Improve Your Store’s Performance?

Shopify has become one of the most popular platforms for building and managing eCommerce stores. However, even with its user-friendly interface, there are times when you might run into technical issues or design challenges that can cause headaches. If you’re facing some common Shopify problems, you’re not alone!

In this post, I’ll cover a few common Shopify challenges, along with possible solutions to help you get your store running smoothly. If you’re struggling with any of these issues, read on I’m here to help.

1. Gilbert Color Font Not Showing on Safari

It’s a common problem for Shopify stores to encounter font display issues on certain browsers, with Safari often being the culprit. This can be frustrating, especially when your site looks perfect in other browsers but not on Safari.

Solution: This issue often arises due to font compatibility or improper CSS loading. Ensure your Gilbert font is correctly integrated into your Shopify theme’s CSS, and check if the font file is loaded properly in Safari. Additionally, review the font-face declaration in your theme’s CSS file to ensure it’s properly configured.

2. Aligning Header Icons in Shopify Design

If your header icons are misaligned or not appearing as you want them to, it could be a matter of simple CSS styling. Misalignment can affect your website’s visual appeal and user experience.

Solution: Check your CSS properties for padding, margins, and positioning for the header elements. You might need to tweak the properties, depending on your theme structure. If you're not familiar with CSS, Shopify’s theme editor can help you apply minor changes directly.

3. Opening Navigation/Menu Item Links in a New Tab

Want to open certain links in a new tab instead of within the same window? This can be a useful feature for links to external sites or other parts of your Shopify store.

Solution: You can easily implement this in Shopify by adding the attribute to the navigation links in your Shopify theme. To do this, edit the menu settings within your Shopify admin and modify the HTML code of the link you want to open in a new tab.

4. GraphQL Basics and Troubleshooting: Compare at Price Not Displaying in Storefront API (GraphQL)

GraphQL is a powerful tool for Shopify store owners, but it can sometimes be tricky to get everything functioning correctly. If you’re running into issues with the “Compare at Price” not displaying properly in the storefront API, it’s likely due to incorrect GraphQL queries or missing data.

Solution: Check your GraphQL query to ensure you’re properly referencing the field. Make sure it’s included in your query and that the product variant has a set value in your Shopify admin. Testing your query in Shopify’s GraphQL playground can help identify any missing data or errors.

5. Product Template is Same for Every Product

Is your Shopify product template displaying the same content or layout for every product, regardless of what you’ve set up? This issue can confuse customers and impact your site’s user experience.

Solution: This problem typically occurs due to a misconfiguration in your product template or a lack of proper liquid logic. Double-check your product template files in Shopify’s theme editor to ensure that dynamic content (such as product-specific details) is being rendered correctly.

6. Shopify Function Not Executing with Discount Coupons

If your discount coupons aren’t being applied or working properly, it could be due to a variety of reasons — whether it’s an issue with the discount configuration or a conflict with your Shopify theme.

Solution: First, ensure your discount code is properly created and active in your Shopify admin. Double-check the conditions applied to the coupon, such as minimum order requirements, eligible products, or shipping methods. If everything looks fine on the backend, clear your cache and try again, as sometimes cache issues can interfere with coupon functionality.

7. Predictive Search with Multiple Words Using the OR Operator

Shopify’s predictive search is a great tool, but if you’re trying to implement a search that uses multiple keywords with an OR operator, you might encounter limitations.

Solution: Shopify’s default search doesn’t support multiple words or the OR operator out of the box. You might need to integrate a third-party app like Algolia or customize the search functionality using Shopify’s Liquid code to handle complex queries and improve the search experience.
